توقف الصدمة الساعة الزمنية وتثبت اللحظة الصادمة في الذاكرة والخيال. ومثل هذه الذكريات المؤلمة عادة ما لا تتعدل بمجرد مرور الوقت. وتصبح ثابتة وتتدخل الانفعالات الحادة والعنيفة في معالجتها الطبيعية. وهذه الذكريات المؤلمة ليست منظمة أو مرتبة على الخط اللغوي
